Events done differently.

Tokutana means let us meet. We are a small, curated calendar of gatherings in Kampala, chosen for why they exist and how they leave people feeling. Not ticket volume. Not hype.

What we believe

Fewer, better gatherings.

Ten to twenty a month, each one read closely by a curator, beats five hundred flyers competing for your evening. We would rather publish nothing than publish noise.

Every gathering needs a reason to exist.

Before anything is published, hosts tell us why their gathering exists, which rituals hold it together, and how guests should feel on the ride home. If those answers are not there yet, neither is the event.

Hosts answer for the promise.

After every gathering we ask guests and curators one question: did it deliver what it promised? A place on Tokutana is earned by the answer, and it can be lost by it.

How curation works

From the first answer a host writes to the last thing a guest tells us.

  1. Submission

Hosts answer the Intentionality Probe: the why, the rituals, the afterglow and an honest reading of the vibe.

  2. Review

A curator reads every answer, then approves, asks for revision, or declines with written feedback.

  3. Publication

Approved gatherings go live. The ones that best carry our values receive a Curator’s Pick and a written endorsement.

  4. The gathering

Guests arrive knowing the ground rules. The host keeps the promise they made in writing.

  5. Debrief

Guests and curators score resonance, rituals and afterglow. The outcome is published on the event page for everyone to see.

The standard we hold hosts to

Every host has a standing, reviewed after each debrief. It decides how quickly new gatherings are approved, and whether a host stays on Tokutana at all.

Exemplary

A pillar of the community. Consistently high resonance, approvals prioritised, and eligible for Curator’s Pick.

Good standing

A reliable host whose gatherings deliver what they promise.

Under observation

Minor friction, a broken ritual or a drift toward the commercial. A curator checks in before the next gathering is approved.

Suspended

Hype promoted over substance, or a safety or vibe pledge broken. The host is removed from the platform.

What we ask of guests

Arrive when the host asks you to. Openings are part of the ritual.

Honour the ground rules, especially the inconvenient ones.

Put your phone where you are asked to, and leave it there.

Tell us honestly how it felt. Your answer keeps hosts accountable.
