Kato sets a single table under the mango tree in his courtyard and cooks five courses from what the market gave him that morning: matooke in groundnut sauce, smoked tilapia, malakwang, and a dessert he will not name in advance.

Seats are assigned so that nobody sits beside the person they came with. Conversation prompts are tucked under each plate.

The Curator’s Endorsement

“Kato cooks the way our grandmothers hosted: generously, slowly, and with no one left out of the conversation.”

The Intentionality Pledge

Every host answers these before a gathering is published, and is held to them afterwards.

Why it exists

Most of us eat with screens. This table exists so fourteen people who would never otherwise meet share a meal slowly enough to really talk.

The ritual

  • No phones at the table
  • Sit beside someone new
  • Every course is served from a shared dish
  • One toast per guest, to someone not in the room

The afterglow

On the ride home, you should feel Deeply Connected.

How the host measures success

At least three new friendships carried beyond the table, measured by guests who ask to be seated together again.

The vibe

Four dimensions, set by the host and checked by our curators.
